To most of us, when the term “hypnosis” is mentioned, almost instantaneously we picture someone sitting or lying on a comfort chair with a hypnotist beside casting some form spell. Hypnosis however, is something that you can do on yourself, if given the proper techniques you can even gain control of your own mind. Later in this article you can find basic techniques description which you can use instantly or modify to fit your need.
The techniques mentioned in this article is not much different compared to those used by professional hypnotist on their subjects. Bear in mind that techniques suggested in this article are real, of which you will put suggestive ideas into your own subconscious mind, so be very careful and think thoroughly ideas that you want to “program in” before you decide to do so.
So, first thing first, you need to determine your goal, a purpose that you want to hypnotize yourself for. Ask yourself this important question, “what am I trying to accomplish?” or “what am I trying to look for within me?”. After defining clearly you goal, you need to be consistent with it. Aim for one goal at a time, people in general, always have the tendency to try to solve all problems in a single step, but this strictly is to be avoided when you go through self hypnosis session. Hypnotize yourself for multiple reasons can only lead to more problems.
What kind of statements or suggestions you may to put into your subconscious mind? Firstly, they need to be something positive and beneficial, never attempt to suggest something like “I am going to do bungee jumping no matter how scared I am about it”. By putting up with suggestions like this, you will never overcome the fear of height, instead, you are making it worse. If you make a statement, do not include negative phrases inside, or replace them with positive ones. To repeat out example, “I am going to do bungee jumping, and I shall have the feeling of freedom floating in the air!!”
Secondly, you have to formulate a statement that is easy for you to recall. Let’s just say you have the problem with communicating with people, and you want to overcome it. Make a personalized suggestion like “I am a damn good in talking to people!”. Lastly, do write down the reasons why you want to accomplish your goal, and what good it brings you when you finally achieved your goal. So, the purpose being, every time when you repeat the suggestive statement to yourself, you can visualize the end result of your success, the day when you finally altered your subconscious mind. Try to make your statement short, direct and specific enough, for instance, “I eat only healthy food”.
A self hypnosis session must be performed under an absolutely undisturbed condition. Switch off you mobile phone, disconnect the phone line, lock the doors and make yourself feel comfortable. You may lie on your bed or sit on a chair which you can lean on your back straight.
- Set a point of focus slightly upward from your forward vision.
- Breathe deeply for a few times, and tell yourself to “relax”.
- Imagine that as you breathe out, you are getting rid of the “bad stuffs” that troubles you deep inside, and as you breathe in, you are replacing those empty spaces with “good stuffs”.
- Shut your eyes and focus on a few sounds that you can now hear, (3 to 5) like tap water dripping, wind that is blowing outside, rain drops and etc. Be aware of what are the sensations like temperature changes which you can feel with your skin at this moment, try to perceive how your weight pushes downward against the chair or bed you are on.
- In order to access your subconscious level of the mind, imagine that you are walking down a ten step spiral staircase, to a beautiful garden down stair. As you take each step down, you pass through layers of clouds, gradually leaving your worries behind, and you get more and more relaxed. When your feet are off the last step, you are stepping on a glowing green lawn, reflecting the rays of the sun.
- You are now well relaxed, and you start to repeat your statement to your subconscious mind, repeat the suggestion three times, and take a short break, then followed by the next 3 times, and so on.
- When you feel that you have enough, imagine that you are climbing up the spiral staircase again back to the upper floor where you came from.
- Now the hypnotic session is over, you are back to your normal state of mind.
Do try out this suggested self hypnotherapy, and if you feel that is helps you, repeat if regularly to improve yourself.
